----- Original Message ----- Subject: A Note for Bonnie and Jack, The MB Snowbirders Hi There! We are a family of six (children 12, 8, 7, and 4) going to Myrtle Beach for the first time March8-15th. We were wondering about the public transit along the beach area. Do you know how good it is? We were contemplating whether or not to rent a mini van or just rely on the public transit. We don'r plan to do too much, just the aquarium and maybe a few Can-American games activities and of course shopping at the outlet malls. Do you think we can survive without a car? We are at Compass cove. Can you get public transit from the airport? We could also take a taxi but there are six of us! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Also would you know if we could try our hand at crab fishing in any of the creeks/rivers around? Especially in March? Thanks again in advance for your help! The Truman Family Ontario, Canada
Hello Truman Family,
Thanks for your inquiry. I think you are in for a real treat with your first visit to Myrtle Beach! Here are some addresses for you to peruse. You will be able to print out all of the bus schedules. The public transportation is clean and comfortable though it doesn't always run exactly on time. It does go to all of the popular places from your hotel. Not sure if they service the airport but you can send them a question and you might also query your hotel. Be sure and check out the Message Board for a wealth of current
information.
Be sure to check out Barefoot Landing as well as Broadway at the Beach where the Aquarium is located. You are also going to be almost within walking distance of Angelo's Restaurant, one of our favorites. We have stayed at Compass Cove and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good people, good security and nice amenities. You are within walking distance of Springmaid Pier: http://www.springmaidbeach.com/springmaid-pier.html if you would like to try fishing and also not too far from Myrtle Beach State Park http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/products/10003573.aspx They have a crabbing program but not until May. If you think of other questions, send them along. Would also like to hear your thoughts upon your return home. Would love to have a Canadian point of view on Can-Am Days. Don't buy any coupon books. Your hotel will have a ton when you get there. "Monster Coupon Book" is one of the best. Everyone uses coupons and you can save a ton of $$$. Have a great time, Jack & Bonnie http://www.myrtlebeachsnowbirder.com/ |

Marie says she really enjoyed her few days in Myrtle Beach even though the view of the ocean was rather tight from her OV room! The beach was great and she enjoyed some great meals, visiting downtown, Broadway at the Beach, Ripley's Aquarium and a great Le Grande Cirque show at the Palace Theatre. |

Hello Ginger, The Crown Reef was one of our stops today and we spent about an hour checking out the hotel and the amenities. We had the security staff give us a guided tour and found them courteous and helpful. They like their jobs and their place of employment and the pride shows. The registration desk is across the street from the three towers of the hotel as well as additional parking if needed. Only one girl on duty and though I didn't find her overly personable, she was doing her job efficiently. There was a large gathering of emergency workers having a conference this week and we still found parking not to be a problem on the hotel side. We looked at both an efficiency and a suite. Both were clean well appointed and overall in great shape. We spoke with several vacationers and they indicated they had no problems and thought the hotel to be a good value. There are two restaurants, a small fitness room and a small game room. The gift shop is filled with trinkets of all kinds. There is a lounge called "Cloud Nine" that has an open, airy feel, making it a great place to meet up with others in your party. You'll find several pools and a very long lazy river. The security office (called the "Loss Prevention Office") is centrally located at the top center of the parking ramp. It is manned 24/7 and equipped with surveilance cameras situated around the property. The only thing we could find on the minus side was slow elevators but if you have a little patience it shouldn't ruin your vacation. From what we saw and experienced we give it a good 4 out of 5 for value received for your money. Hope this helps you. We are in no way connected with any hotels we discuss and we enter them just as tourists and ask to see what they have to offer. That said, I hope you enjoy your visit and would really appreciate if you would send us a note when you return home and give us your opinion. We will have photos on our "HOTELS" page after we return home next week. All the best, Jack Armstrong (Ginger sent us her personal review. You can read it on our Crown Reef page.) |

Hello Bonnie & Jack, We were in Myrtle Beach the last week of Sept. We took your web site advice and went to the Filling Station . It was great, plenty of good food and entertainment from the gentleman cleaning off the tables, I'm assuming it was Isaac. Don't waste your time going to the Farmer's Daughter buffet, it was terrible and very expensive. The Good Vibrations show at the Carolina Opryland was excellent as well as Le Grande Cirque at the Palace Theatre. Anne and I had been to Brookgreen Gardens about 15 years ago so we figured it was time to go again. Boy, has it changed a lot. Spent almost the whole day there. The new boat ride and information about the rice plantations were exceptional. Our last day we went up to Wilmington , NC, up US 17to 421, to see the USS North Carolina battleship. If you haven't seen it , it is well worth the 45 min. trip. Easy to get to. If you're into wine tasting , try the Silver Coast Winery just off US 17. The wines are excellent. Regards, Wayne & Anne, Rochester, NY |
